Shifting sandbars along a pine-backed stretch of Les Landes coastline make Cap de l'Homy-Plage one of the more versatile beach breaks between Hossegor and the Gironde. SW swell combined with NE offshore wind is the golden combo, but the spot picks up almost anything: it starts moving below 1ft and holds well past 10ft on the biggest winter pulses. The multiple banks mean there is almost always something rideable across the skill range, from rolling waist-high crumbles on small days to fast, punchy barrels when east-northeast winds and a solid southwest swell team up. Midweek it is genuinely quiet even in summer, weekends bring a few more surfers but nowhere near the circus found at Hossegor to the south. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, strongest Oct-Mar. Consistency: high. Pick the bank that looks emptiest and watch a few sets before paddling out, because the shallow rip-formed banks can surprise you on bigger tides.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Cap de l'Homy is genuinely uncrowded compared to the Hossegor cluster. Weekdays feel almost empty even in peak summer. Because there are many banks spread across a long beach, even a modest weekend crowd disperses easily. The vibe is mellow and the surf school presence confirms a welcoming atmosphere. Standard lineup etiquette is sufficient here.

Access & Facilities

A single road from Lit et Mixe leads directly to the beach. Two parking areas sit at the dune: a free lot at the base and a paid lot on top in summer. A campsite adjacent to the beach makes multi-day stays practical. A surf school operates in season. The surrounding pine forest means shade and shelter after sessions. No significant water quality issues noted, but check local advisories after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cap de l'Homy goes flat or too onshore, the banks around Mimizan-Plage to the south offer similar sandbar setups and slightly more services. Hossegor and La Gravière are an hour south for those chasing heavier, more consistent barrels on a significant swell.
