Crumbly, scattered peaks over a mixed rock-and-sand bottom just west of Ditch Plains, Trailer Park is Montauk's pressure-valve option when the main break gets packed. It picks up E, ESE, and SE swells best, performs from waist-high to well overhead, and rewards mid-to-high tide when the boulders are covered enough to surf without constant reef anxiety. NW winds clean it up. The scattered peaks suit longboarders and alternative craft riders well, though the submerged boulders are a genuine hazard that keeps the most novice surfers off the water and gives the lineup a workable intermediate-to-advanced crowd. Bottom: mixed rock and sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: moderate. Bring a board you don't mind risking near rock, and scope the entry point carefully before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds here are moderate, almost always a direct reflection of how packed Ditch Plains is. The local vibe is welcoming and mellow, a low-localism environment by Long Island standards. Expect intermediate and above surfers, the rock hazard naturally self-selects the lineup. Dawn patrol or early-morning weekday sessions will be the quietest.

Access & Facilities

Access is easy and the water quality is clean overall. The main hazard is the boulder field scattered across the bottom and in the impact zone: check the lineup carefully for exposed rocks before committing to any section. Ditch Plains and Poles are both within easy walking distance if conditions here aren't cooperating.

Nearby Alternatives

Ditch Plains, a short walk east, is the area's headline break and worth checking first on any swell. Poles, just up the coast, offers another softer option for longboards when Trailer Park's rock situation feels sketchy.
