A sand-bar peak on Long Island's Dune Road that punches above its weight when everywhere else in the Hampton Bays stretch is too soft to bother with. K Road holds a reliable sandbar that keeps waves rideable below chest-high when neighboring breaks along Dune Road go flat or formless. SW to SE groundswell in the 2-6ft range is the sweet spot, with light NW or NNW winds cleaning things up offshore. Works across all tides, though mid to high tends to fill in the better shape. Crowds are consistent both midweek and on weekends, reflecting how short the rideable sections actually are. Bottom: sandbar. Season: late summer through fall. Consistency: moderate. Go early or plan around weekday mornings if you want space in the lineup.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowded midweek and weekends alike. Given the short wave length and consistent crowd, lineups get competitive fast. Dawn patrol on weekdays is the practical move. No specific localism reports, but a busy shortboard peak with limited rides per set means patience matters.

Access & Facilities

Head to Dune Road in Westhampton and travel west. County park access. Parking is available but fills up on summer weekends. Water quality is generally good. No notable hazards beyond the usual sandbar closeouts and summer beach crowds.

Nearby Alternatives

If K Road is maxed out or packed, other Dune Road breaks can fire when swell pushes above head high and the jetties are cooperating. Further east, the Hamptons coastline picks up more exposed swell when size builds.
