A quiet beach break on the western tip of the Rockaway Peninsula, Breezy Point sits just west of the better-known Rockaway Beach and rarely delivers consistently good surf. SE, ESE, and E swells are the fuel here, with NW to N winds keeping faces clean. Low-to-mid tide generally produces the best shape. Waist-high to overhead is the functional range, though rips get genuinely heavy on bigger days and will drain your shoulders faster than the wave count justifies. Intermediate to advanced surfers will handle conditions here most comfortably, and the crowd is usually thin enough to find space. Bottom: Sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: Low to moderate. Come with a fish or longboard on smaller days since the peaks can be soft and slow.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup here is mellow and the local vibe is welcoming. Crowds rarely become a pressure point, even on better days. Standard surf etiquette is enough. Rockaway Beach draws most of the crowd from the area, leaving Breezy Point relatively uncongested.

Access & Facilities

Pay parking is available at the point, with limited street parking as an alternative. Water quality is fair, reasonably clean despite proximity to the Hudson River outflow. Currents are the primary hazard so check conditions before paddling out on larger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

Rockaway Beach, just to the east, offers more consistent peaks and better infrastructure. On solid E or SE groundswells, checking multiple sandbars along the Rockaway stretch is worth the short drive before committing to a session.
