Troncones Point is a long cobblestone left-hand pointbreak north of Ixtapa that wraps swell energy from the South Pacific into extended, shouldery peelers best suited to longboarders and intermediate surfers looking for mileage over punch. S and SW swells from 3ft to double overhead drive the point, with NE offshores and low-to-mid tide pulling the best shape. The bay position makes the inside section softer and mushier than it looks, and a submerged dry rock mid-bay warrants attention on your first few sessions. Best from March through October, with peak energy May through November when South Pacific groundswells fire most reliably. Consistency is high for the region, bottom is sand over rock and cobble, and the wave quality sits firmly in the regional classic tier. Bring a longboard or funboard as your primary weapon: the long paddle back out after a 300m ride is real, and a shortboard will frustrate on most days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup has a well-established local crew so give respect in the water. Crowd levels are moderate and swell-dependent: small or average days are easy to navigate, but a solid SW groundswell pulls bodies from Ixtapa and beyond. Dawn patrol mid-week is your best window for space. Localism is rated doable, not hostile, but mind your priority etiquette.

Access & Facilities

Follow highway signs toward Troncones village north of Ixtapa. Parking is available at Casa Manzanillo, which also runs a surf shop and restaurant, making it the practical base for the area. No public facilities on the beach itself. Watch for rocks and urchins, especially at lower tides near the point. The inside bay has a reported dry rock mid-section: identify it before paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Troncones is too soft, La Boca and Saladita just up the coast offer quality alternatives, and The Ranch further north is worth timing for bigger swells. On stronger S swells, Ixtapa-area breaks south of here can also fire.
