Peaks running the length of this Michoacán beach break deliver fast walls and round barrels across a wide, shifting sandbar setup. SW to S swell at chest-high to double-overhead works best on N or NE offshores with a low-to-mid tide, the broad swell window also accepts SSE and W energy, making it useful almost any time of year. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find plenty to work with, and crowds stay mellow because the peaks are so spread out. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, peaks April through September. Consistency: moderate to good in swell season. Expect strong lateral currents that will drag you far from your entry point, so budget extra paddling time and stay aware of the shore angle.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is consistently mellow given how much beach there is to spread across. Localism exists but is manageable with the usual humility and respect. Pick a peak away from any cluster that has already formed and you will rarely feel pressure.

Access & Facilities

Park at one of the restaurants lining the beach and paddle straight out from wherever you stop. Restaurants mean food and water close at hand. Main hazard beyond the current is turning your back to the ocean, as sets can sneak up on flat-water moments between swells.

Nearby Alternatives

The Michoacán coastline has additional beach and point options within driving distance when Playa Azul is too small or onshore winds arrive early. La Ticla to the southeast is worth checking on the same swell, offering a more structured point setup as a contrast to Azul's open-beach peaks.
