A mellow river-mouth left at Playa Linda, just outside Ixtapa, delivers long walls into a sandy lagoon when the swell cooperates. SW and WNW swells line up best here, due-S energy gets blocked by the offshore island, so angle matters. NE to E winds are offshore, and the break works at all tides, coming alive from chest-high and holding into the overhead range before it mushes out. Beginners and intermediates will find the long, forgiving walls ideal for building speed and linking turns, while experts will likely get bored quickly. The crowd is moderate, mixing locals and visiting surfers, but the vibe stays friendly. Bottom: sand and rock. Season: June through November. Consistency: medium. River flow shifts the bar regularly, so the bank changes shape after heavy rain, and water quality drops noticeably post-downpour. Bring a longboard or funboard on smaller days to make the most of the soft, slow sections.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a consistent crowd of local and visiting surfers, especially on weekends. The locals are described as friendly and the vibe is manageable, but the lineup does fill up. Dawn patrol on weekdays is your best window for fewer bodies in the water.

Access & Facilities

Drive out from Ixtapa toward Playa Linda, near the former Club Med site. Free parking is available. Walk across the rocks to reach the takeoff zone and paddle out through a relatively easy channel. Facilities are basic, with camping on the beach. Water quality is fair but deteriorates after rain due to river runoff.

Nearby Alternatives

If Playa Linda is flat or blown out, Playa del Palmar back toward the harbor jetty can pick up NW swell and has its own beachbreak peaks. Ixtapa Island, a short ferry ride away, has a fast right that barrels over a rock ledge on the south coast in due-S swell at higher tides.
