Intermediate to advanced surfers will find the wave rewarding, but this is a locals-dominated lineup with low consistency, meaning when it fires, the crew that made the trip counts. Respect priority, wait your turn, and don't paddle around the peak. Showing up on a step-up board signals you belong.
Reach Las Gatas by walking the coastal path or taking a boat from Zihuatanejo's municipal pier. No facilities on the beach, no parking at the break. Bring food, water, and sunscreen. Plan your session around high tide windows or you'll be watching the reef rather than riding it.
When the swell is too small to trigger Las Gatas, Playa del Palmar's Escolleras offers beachbreak options driven by marina currents. Barra de Potosí occasionally produces a left point wave on major S swell events, worth checking if you're chasing alternatives along the Guerrero-Michoacán coast.
