A sheltered beachbreak on the Larmor Plage peninsula that earns its reputation as a last-resort option when nearby spots blow out or max out. Oriented to catch SW-W swells, it needs that swell window to deliver, but the NW wind that kills every other beach around Lorient is actually offshore here, which is the whole point. Size range runs 1-6ft, with the better hollow sections appearing on a pushing tide. Intermediate surfers will find it manageable most days, but the lineup draws crowds from as far as Guidel, 15km away, precisely because it works when nothing else does. Bottom: beach. Season: autumn and winter. Consistency: low, but it fires on the right combo. Water quality has been flagged for sewage discharge, check local pollution reports before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Low consistency means when Toulhars is working, everyone knows it. Expect a packed lineup pulled from the greater Lorient area. No specific localism reports, but the crowd reality is real. Dawn patrol on mid-week swells will ease the pressure.

Access & Facilities

A carpark and restrooms are on-site at Larmor Plage, making access straightforward. Pollution from residential sewage discharge has been reported on this beach and is under investigation. Check water quality advisories before sessions, especially after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Toulhars is flat or the water quality is questionable, Guidel's main beach to the south picks up more swell and is the most consistently surfed stretch in the area. Farther afield, the Quiberon peninsula and its sheltered west-side spots offer different exposures worth checking on the same swell.
