A punchy beach break on the south Brittany coast, Le Kerou sits near Le Pouldu between Lorient and Guidel, delivering short but powerful peaks that can stretch to genuine long walls on a solid NW swell. It picks up NW groundswell well and works across all tides, though wave shape shifts noticeably with size. At 3-5ft it offers playful, accessible peaks, push it toward 8-10ft and the wave gets heavy and consequence-laden, particularly toward the right flank where rocks come into play. The crowd is light on weekdays, with more bodies in summer, skewed heavily toward bodyboarders. Surf this one early in the day before the beach fills up. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through spring for size and quality. Consistency: moderate, flat spells common in summer. Rip awareness is essential here, as past incidents on this beach serve as a reminder that conditions can deteriorate quickly when you least expect it.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is not reported as an issue. Weekday crowds are sparse. Summer weekends draw more visitors, and bodyboarders tend to dominate the lineup. Friction between surfers and bodyboarders has been noted. Staying aware of who's around you in the water matters as much here as reading the waves.

Access & Facilities

Head through Guidel toward Le Pouldu and follow signs to the beach, Le Kerou is signposted from there. Basic beach facilities available in season. Lifeguards operate during summer. Be aware that conditions can change fast and the rocks on the right side of the beach are a real hazard at any size.

Nearby Alternatives

When Le Kerou is flat or too crowded, the broader Le Pouldu area has other exposed beach sections worth checking on the same swell. The Quiberon Peninsula to the south and spots around Crozon to the north offer alternatives when swell direction or size doesn't suit this stretch of coast.
