A fast, powerful reef break at Cap Sizun in Brittany's Finistère, Pors Theolen delivers long, punchy walls when the rest of the region shuts down. It needs solid W to NW swell in the 5-8ft range to show its best, and offshore winds from the SE keep faces clean. Mid to high tide smooths out the shallower sections, though it runs at all stages. This is an experienced-surfer wave: the reef is unforgiving, the takeoff demands commitment, and the beach is genuinely small, so more than a handful of surfers makes it uncomfortable fast. Bottom: reef. Season: Oct-Mar. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Dawn patrol or weekday sessions are the move here. Locals are generally fine if you show basic respect: say hello, read the pecking order, and give way. There are other reefs in the area if the vibe is off.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays you may have this wave to yourself or nearly so. Weekends see a few surfers, but the tiny beach constrains numbers naturally. Localism isn't heavy by reputation, but one or two vocal locals set the tone. Greet people, wait your turn, and don't paddle out with a crew of six.

Access & Facilities

Reachable by road near Cap Sizun. A small car park sits close to the spot, and there's a nearby shop for basics. Water temperature runs cold, especially Oct-Apr, so a 4/3 or 5/4 with boots is sensible in winter.

Nearby Alternatives

Cap Sizun and the surrounding Finistère coastline hold multiple reef setups that come alive in similar swell windows. If Pors Theolen is too small or crowded, explore the broader headland for other W-NW-exposed options.
