A hollow beach break sitting just south of La Torche, Pors Carn consistently punches above its reputation on the Breton coast of Northwest France. SW to NW swells wrap into the bay, picking up the same open Atlantic energy as its famous neighbour, and the sandbars here tend to produce steeper, more hollow peaks. Offshore winds blow from the NE to E, and mid to low tide is when the banks fire best. The spot divides into three distinct zones: a punchy middle section near boulders at mid tide, a right-hander on the left side of the bay that holds shape even in WSW winds, and an outer reef in the centre of the bay that handles up to 5m-plus. Lineup is consistently uncrowded, even on weekends, which makes it a rare find for a spot of this quality. Bottom: sand with reef influence. Season: September to April. Consistency: high during Atlantic swell season. Never surf the outer reef alone as it is one of the most dangerous stretches of Brittany's coastline.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Reported as empty on both weekdays and weekends, which is unusual for a quality Breton beach break. It sits in the shadow of La Torche's reputation and draws a fraction of that crowd. No localism reported, but when La Torche maxes out and crowds redirect, expect a few extra faces.

Access & Facilities

Share the La Torche car park and walk south, or approach from the Saint-Guénolé side via the D2 coastal road. Basic facilities at La Torche. Bring your own water for longer sessions. The outer reef zone carries serious hazard: strong currents, submerged reef, and remote conditions. Do not paddle out there without a partner.

Nearby Alternatives

La Torche, 1km north, is the region's benchmark beach break and worth checking first for a read on swell size and wind. Saint-Guénolé reefs to the south offer additional options when the bay closes out in straight W swells.
