A performance right-hander wrapping around the headland of Cap de la Chèvre on Brittany's Crozon Peninsula, Pointe de Dinan delivers rides up to 200m over uneven reef. SW to NW swells in the 2-10ft range are optimal, with NE offshore winds keeping faces clean and the point protected from N winds. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find the most reward here, the wave holds size well but low tide exposes boils and dry rocks, demanding quick footwork and slalom instincts through sections. Bottom: reef. Season: autumn-winter. Consistency: medium. Come prepared with a step-up for overhead-plus days and expect some navigating around rocks when the tide pulls out. The bay also hosts hollow lefts that wake up on the pushing tide over a sand and rock mix, giving options when the main right isn't cooperating.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are occasional rather than constant. The reef and tidal hazards provide natural filtering, but on a clean autumn swell with NE winds the lineup can fill up with experienced Finistère locals. Respect priority in the water and give the reef proper attention before paddling out blind at low tide.

Access & Facilities

A car park serves the point but there are no facilities on site. Stock up on water and food before heading out. The uneven reef at low tide is the main hazard, check the conditions from the cliff before paddling. Booties are worth considering for protection against reef contact.

Nearby Alternatives

When Pointe de Dinan is too small or too maxed, the Crozon Peninsula has beachbreaks and reefs within range offering different exposures. La Palue on the south side of the peninsula picks up more westerly swell energy and suits a range of conditions when the point is out of the window.
