A high-consistency beachbreak sitting in the middle of Longeville bay, Les Conches delivers punchy, hollow peaks from under 1m through to 2.5m-plus, shaped by shifting sandbars that mirror the wave character of the Landes coast further south. SW to NW swell wraps into the bay, with NE offshores grooming the faces cleanly. All tides work, though higher tide walls can produce longer rides through the channels. The spot suits intermediates well, but beginners find it manageable in smaller surf and a surf school operates on-site. Crowds are the honest downside here: the proximity to a large campsite and easy parking means the lineup fills fast in summer. Bottom: sand. Season: consistent year-round, best avoided mid-July to late August. Consistency: high. If you want less company, walk south toward Bud-Bud for more powerful, hollow peaks, or continue to La Terrière where the crowds thin considerably.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Les Conches is one of the busier breaks in the Vendée, not because of heavy localism but because a campsite, surf school, and easy carpark deliver a constant stream of surfers. Midsummer is genuinely crowded with mixed ability. Dawn patrol pays dividends. Localism is not flagged as a significant issue, but respect the lineup priority and you will be fine.

Access & Facilities

From Longeville-sur-Mer, follow the D105 and turn at the Les Conches sign. A dedicated carpark sits minutes from the beach. Clos des Pins campsite is directly adjacent. Board and wetsuit rentals are available nearby. No significant pollution or hazard concerns flagged, though rip currents are standard for any beachbreak of this consistency.

Nearby Alternatives

Bud-Bud to the south is the step up in power when Les Conches is too mellow or too packed. La Terrière is further again and consistently less crowded. When a big storm kills the open beaches, La Tranche-sur-Mer to the north offers long, mellow rides sheltered by the Pointe du Groin.
