A powerful, hollow beach break on the Crozon Peninsula in West Brittany, La Palue is one of the region's best and most respected setups. It reads NW to SW swell off the Atlantic and performs best at mid to high tide, with offshore winds from the east or southeast. Waves start showing at under 1m and can hold well overhead on good swells, producing short punchy sections on average days and long barrels stretching 150-300m when conditions line up. This is a spot for experienced surfers: the currents are serious, the beach has no lifeguards, and swimming tourists have drowned here. Bottom: beach. Season: year-round, with autumn and spring offering the best balance of swell and crowd. Consistency: reliable Atlantic exposure. Arrive at dawn on the end of a rising tide to catch cleaner conditions before the weekend crowds arrive, and paddle out on the left side of the beach where the rip channel gives you a read on the current.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends and school holidays bring crowds, but the local atmosphere is genuinely welcoming if you drop the ego. The community notes here are old school Brittany surf culture: smile and you'll get one back. The colder the season, the thinner and friendlier the lineup. Summers can be hectic. Localism is present but not heavy, and respect goes a long way.

Access & Facilities

From Morgat, follow signs toward Cap de la Chèvre on the D255. There is a parking area atop the dune with additional surfer-only lots further down. No lifeguards on this beach, ever. Swim rip awareness is non-negotiable. Pack out everything you bring in: the Crozon Peninsula is a protected coastal environment and locals take that seriously.

Nearby Alternatives

At high tide, walk roughly 300m north from the main car park to LostMarc'h, a point break that can outperform La Palue when conditions are right. The Crozon Peninsula has additional beach and reef options reachable within a short drive for when La Palue's banks are blown out or crowded.
