Guidel
- Guidel is a a-frame over mixed, beach peaks over flat reef, variable sections.
- Beginner to intermediate ability, working 2-10 ft.
- Peak September to March, water 10-18°C.
Three distinct beach breaks backed by a flat reef shelf make Guidel a reliable option on the southern Brittany coast, roughly between Lorient and Quimper. SW to NW groundswells are the fuel here, and the spot starts showing rideable shape from under 1m, scaling up to a genuine 4m+ on bigger Atlantic pulses. Offshore winds blow from the SE and E, cleaning up the peaks and giving the reef-backed sections more definition. Low to mid tide is the window to be here, as higher water tends to flatten and close out the banks. The three beaches each behave differently depending on sand movement, so if one is washing through, a short walk usually finds something better working. Crowds are a real factor on weekends, swelling from a quiet weekday lineup to an ultra-crowded situation when the forecast lights up. Bottom: mixed sand and flat reef. Season: autumn through winter. Consistency: moderate to high. Arrive early on any weekend with swell in the water or you will be fighting for every set.
