Raw, barely-accessed point and reef setup tucked beneath the sea cliffs of Cap de la Chevre on Brittany's Crozon Peninsula, this wave demands full commitment before you've even paddled out. SW to NW swell from 5-12ft, low to mid tide, and clean easterly offshores align to produce hollow, powerful rights and lefts over uneven reef. The descent alone filters most surfers: a steep, slippery cliff path leads to a small beach, followed by a 500m open-ocean paddle against swirling currents to reach the lineup. Experts only, and that is not a qualifier lightly applied here. Bottom: reef. Season: autumn through winter. Consistency: low. Bring a step-up or gun for the right side, which walls hard in front of the cliff face at size.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends see almost no surfers here, and weekdays even less. The access alone ensures a self-selecting lineup. Tourists arrive in buses to the cape viewpoint above, but almost none make it to the water. Localism is not a concern. Isolation is. Do not surf alone.

Access & Facilities

Drive to Cap de la Chevre and use the car park. A footpath leads to the cliff edge, the descent to the beach is steep and slippery, especially in wet conditions. No facilities on site. Carry water and a first-aid kit. Swirling rip currents are consistent features of the bay, not exceptions. Seals and dolphins are regular company.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cap de la Chevre is too small or too gnarly, La Palue on the west side of Crozon picks up more swell and offers a more manageable beachbreak entry. La Torche to the south is Brittany's most consistent option and handles a wide range of conditions.
