One of Normandy's most reliable lefts, Yport breaks over a rocky reef near Fécamp and wraps long lines down the point when conditions align. It needs W to NW swell in the 5-8ft range to show its best, with SW winds keeping the lineup glassy thanks to the natural windbreak of the Pointe de Chicard cliff. Mid to high tide is optimal. Intermediate to advanced surfers will enjoy the long walling sections on good days, though the wave can push a strong rip toward Fécamp that demands respect. Bottom: reef. Season: Sep-Apr. Consistency: medium. Bring a 4/3 or 5/4 depending on the month, and stay alert for the rip current running parallel to the beach toward town.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Yport is consistently less crowded than nearby Etretat despite easy parking directly in front of the break. Weekend sessions can bring a small cluster of local surfers, but the vibe is generally manageable. Arriving at dawn during autumn and winter swells remains the most effective way to score it quieter.

Access & Facilities

Park in the carpark directly above the shingle beach. Camping is available nearby. The village of Yport sits just off the D940 coastal road, with Fécamp a short drive away for food and supplies. Shingle entry requires some care, and the rip toward Fécamp is the primary hazard.

Nearby Alternatives

Etretat, a short drive south, offers consistent beachbreak beneath the famous cliffs but draws significantly more crowds. Fécamp itself has a left along the jetty that can fire in the right SW swell and wind combo, worth checking if Yport is not quite turned on.
