A punchy, versatile beachbreak on the Cotentin Peninsula, Siouville faces a wide arc of westerly Atlantic fetch and delivers a-frame peaks that locals compare to Les Landes on its best days. SW to NW swells between 2-8ft are the target window, with E winds going offshore and mid-to-high tide filling in the banks. The wide beach means peaks spread out enough that even a busy weekend session rarely feels truly locked up. Bottom: sand. Season: September to April. Consistency: medium. One honest caveat: the nuclear reprocessing plant at the northern end of the bay has raised water-quality concerns, so check current advisories before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The vibe here is welcoming and generally low-key. Weekend crowds from the Cherbourg area do show up, but the beach is wide enough that peaks spread the load. Dawn patrol mid-week in autumn will give you the best chance of space. Localism is minimal by French standards.

Access & Facilities

From Cherbourg, head toward Les Pieux and turn right toward Siouville before reaching town. A carpark sits close to the beach. Camping is available nearby. Note the nuclear reprocessing plant at the northern end of the bay: water-quality advice from Forecasts rate it only "fair," so check current reports if that matters to you. Rips and tidal currents are the main hazards, particularly in the middle section of the bay.

Nearby Alternatives

The wider Vauville stretch to the south offers 16km of beachbreak spread across dunes and blockhouses, worth exploring when Siouville is maxed out or too crowded. La Crecque at the northern corner of that bay produces quality walling righthanders on the right swell and is worth the short detour.
