Exposed to the full force of the English Channel, Wimereux is a beach break town 20km south of Calais that picks up SW to NW swells reliably through autumn and winter. The nearby reef at Pointe des Oies adds a more powerful option on SW swells, though strong W winds frequently shut it down above 20km/h. When Wimereux is blown out or flat, Boulogne-sur-Mer sits just to the south with jetty-assisted peaks on NE winds. Wissant, roughly 20km north toward Cap Gris-Nez, is the most consistent stretch on the northern France coast and handles bigger W/NW swells better.
