A short, punchy beach break tucked into the Breton coastline northeast of Morlaix, Locquirec delivers fast-breaking peaks when Atlantic swells wrap into the bay. It needs a solid NW to W swell of at least 3-5ft to switch on, and mid to high tide keeps the banks from going too shallow. Offshore winds from the SE and S groom the faces, though the exposed position means onshores can kill it quickly. Weekdays see only a handful of surfers in the water, but weekends draw a regional crowd, so early sessions are worth it. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter swells, roughly October through February. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bring a board that handles fast, short walls since long rides are not on the menu here, rarely pushing past 50m before sections close out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are quiet with just a few surfers sharing the peaks, making it an easy session for those mid-week. Weekends flip the script and the lineup fills with regional surfers, particularly in autumn. Dawn patrol on a Saturday is the practical move to get uncrowded waves. Localism is not reported as an issue, but standard respect in the lineup applies.

Access & Facilities

Reach Locquirec via the D786 then D64, roughly 15km northeast of Morlaix. The village is small so facilities are limited, especially out of peak tourist season. Surf hire availability is patchy in the immediate area, so travelling surfers should bring their own kit or confirm rental options in Morlaix before making the drive out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Locquirec is blown out or too small, the broader Finistère coast offers more exposed beaches around Saint-Michel-en-Grève and further west toward the headlands of the Crozon Peninsula, which pick up more open-ocean swell and offer longer rides.
