A short harbour left wedging off the jetty wall at Diélette, this wave punches well above its weight when solid NW or SW groundswell wraps into the Cotentin coast. Needs at least 3ft of swell to wake up, with the best shape from 4-8ft at mid to high tide. Offshore easterlies keep faces clean, and the optimal window runs from September through March when Atlantic systems track reliably through the Channel. The wave suits intermediate surfers comfortable with hollow, unpredictable sections and a mixed rock-sand bottom. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: autumn through early spring. Consistency: medium. The entrance extension built into the harbour has dampened the wave significantly compared to its former self, and sand replenishment is slow, so check swell forecasts carefully before making a dedicated trip.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends pull a small crew when it's on, but the spot is quiet by most standards. The unreliable nature of the harbour setup means you'll often have the lineup to yourself on weekdays, even in prime swell season. No significant localism reported, but standard lineup respect applies.

Access & Facilities

From Cherbourg, head toward Les Pieux to reach Diélette. Free parking at the harbour. No surf facilities on site, so fuel up and pack water before arrival. Commercial port activity means water quality can be variable. The Flamanville nuclear plant sits close by to the south. Watch the jetty structure on the paddle-out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Diélette is flat or blown out, the Vauville beachbreaks 16km of open beach to the south fire on any W swell and handle a range of conditions. Further along the Cotentin, consistent peaks toward Barneville-Carteret offer more options when the swell window is marginal for harbour breaks.
