A sheltered cove beach break east of Cherbourg that earns its keep when larger NW and W swells shut down more exposed spots on the Cotentin peninsula. Two distinct peaks sit at opposite ends of the bay, giving options when one section closes out. Best at low to mid tide, when the banks drain properly and the waves have some push. Offshore winds from the SE hold the faces up. Size range starts at knee-high and can hold through solid 6ft-plus on a powerful swell, though the ride lengths stay short most sessions, rarely stretching beyond 50m. Weekdays you may have the lineup to yourself, but weekends draw a local crew that can be possessive of the peaks. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter swells. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Check this spot only after confirming size, as it needs genuine energy to get past waist-high beach slop.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are quiet, sometimes empty. Weekends attract a tight local crew who can be territorial. Multiple reports flag aggressive behaviour at the peaks. Go with a group, surf respectfully, and give priority to surfers already riding. If the vibe turns hostile, the lineup is small enough that paddling to the opposite peak is a realistic exit.

Access & Facilities

Head east from Cherbourg toward Fermanville. The cove is straightforward to find from the road. No confirmed facilities on site, stock up on water and food in Cherbourg before heading out. Watch for rocks at the edges of the bay on lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

When Anse du Brick is too small or blown out, the broader Cotentin coastline offers more exposed beach and reef options that pick up swell earlier. If this spot is closing out, conditions elsewhere on the peninsula are likely maxed out, so a size step-down or a sheltered bay may be the better call.
