A heavy beach break sitting on the left edge of Jardim de Alah, Psiu straddles an imaginary boundary with Praia de Armação in Salvador, Bahia. South groundswell or windswell drives the best sessions, pairing with offshore N-NW wind to square up the lips and hold the faces. The break fires across all tide stages, which extends your window, though incoming mid-tide tends to stack the sets most cleanly. Best size is 3-6ft, and March pulls the highest consistency as autumn groundswells push up from the South Atlantic. Lefts and rights both deliver short tubes off a sand bottom, though rocks lurk on the edges of the break. Intermediate surfers can handle the lineup comfortably, but expect company on the better days. Bottom: sand. Season: March peak, autumn shoulder months. Consistency: moderate to good in autumn, variable outside peak. Arrive early to find a cleaner peak before the crowd fills in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The spot gets busy on weekends and during the better autumn swells. Salvador has a solid local surf population, and Jardim de Alah attracts them. Respect the pecking order in the peak, stay patient, and you'll get your share of waves. Dawn patrol cuts the crowd significantly.

Access & Facilities

Jardim de Alah is an urban beach in Salvador, easily reached by bus or car. Parking exists along the boulevard. Water quality in urban Salvador can vary, so check local conditions after heavy rain. The rock hazard on the edges of the break is real at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

When Psiu is maxed out or blown, Praia de Armação directly borders the break and can offer relief from the peak crowd. Itapuã, further north along the Salvador coastline, picks up south swell cleanly and is worth the extra drive when size is up.
