A remote beach break tucked into the Bahian coast roughly 12 km from Itacaré, Engenhoca earns its reputation by being genuinely hard to reach. You park at the trailhead and walk 20 minutes through Atlantic forest before the beach opens up. NE and SE swells both push energy into the bay, and the wave picks up at under 1 m, making it workable in small surf. Offshore winds from the SW keep faces clean. The beach break produces shifting peaks that suit a wide range of surfers, though the lack of crowds on weekdays and only a handful out on weekends is the main draw. Bottom: sand. Season: consistent year-round but most active during Southern Hemisphere winter swell windows, roughly April through September. Consistency: moderate to good in that window. Bring enough water for the hike and be aware that ongoing hotel construction near the access trail may change how you reach the beach in coming seasons.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The access hike acts as a natural filter. Weekdays bring barely anyone, and weekends see only a few surfers. No significant localism is reported. Respect the forest trail, pack out your rubbish, and keep the area clean to maintain that low-impact atmosphere.

Access & Facilities

Drive 12 km from Itacaré, park at the trailhead, then follow the forest path for roughly 20 minutes to the beach. No facilities on site. Bring your own water, food, and sun protection. Watch the current construction activity near the access point, as the hotel development may alter parking or trail conditions soon.

Nearby Alternatives

Itacaré, 12 km back up the road, anchors a cluster of beach breaks and offers consistent options when Engenhoca is too small or the access feels too much. Tiririca and Jeribucaçu are the area's better-known setups and worth checking before committing to the hike.
