A right-hand sandbank wave breaks where the Baia do Pontal river mouth meets the ocean on Bahia's southern coast, occasionally linking through to the adjacent north-facing section at Concha for a ride stretching up to 500m. It needs a genuine E component in the swell to fire properly, with S-to-W swells working the west-facing Baduska section alone. Winds from the W keep it clean. Tides are forgiving across the range, but the wave is fickle and links between sections rarely come together. Best in the 3-8ft range for intermediate surfers comfortable reading shifting sandbanks and a river-mouth environment. Crowds show up occasionally when it does pulse, but low consistency keeps most sessions manageable. Bottom: sand over submerged reef. Season: NE-S swell window, best pulses in austral autumn-winter. Consistency: low. The estuary location means post-rain water quality drops sharply, so check conditions before paddling out after heavy rainfall upstream.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Consistency is low enough that crowds rarely stack up, but when a swell does connect properly the lineup picks up. Itacaré's main breaks like Tiririca and Boca da Barra draw more traffic, leaving Baduska comparatively quiet on average days. Standard lineup respect applies.

Access & Facilities

A car park is available near the break, but there are no facilities on site. Stock up on water and food before arriving. The river-mouth estuary setting means pollution spikes after rain events upstream, so keep that in mind when planning sessions. No specific hazards are flagged beyond the water quality concern.

Nearby Alternatives

When Baduska is flat or the water quality is off, Boca da Barra offers a super-long fun right-hander peeling across a sandbar nearby. Tiririca in Itacaré runs more consistently with barreling banks at the north end of its beach, and Pontal is an exposed option that sets up sucky peaks in SE-S swell at lower tides.
