Crowd & Localism
Expect a busy lineup most days, heavier on weekends. Being respectful and patient in the rotation is the standard protocol here. Dawn patrol gives you the best chance of uncrowded sets before weekend day-trippers arrive.
A fast, long left-hander breaking over shallow coral reef puts Praia do Forte on the map for experienced surfers visiting Bahia's north coast. The wave picks up small NE and E swells from less than 1ft and can hold faces up to 6ft or more, making it functional across a wide size range. Offshore winds from the SW keep it clean. All tides work, though the shallow reef demands attention at lower water. The crowd is consistent on weekdays and heavier on weekends, so early sessions reward the effort. Bottom: coral reef. Season: year-round with reported activity into September. Consistency: moderate to regular for the region. Bring a board with enough volume to generate speed early on the left, and reef booties are worth the ankle protection over sharp coral.

Praia do Forte is a coastal village roughly 80 km north of Salvador. Access to the break requires a walk from the village, passing the lighthouse and continuing toward the reef. The town has accommodation, restaurants, and a well-known sea turtle conservation project (TAMAR). Do not bring wax-only footwear: reef shoes or booties are practical here.
If the swell is too small or onshore winds have ruined Praia do Forte, the Bahia north coast has several beach breaks within driving distance toward Imbassaí and Guarajuba. Guarajuba offers a more forgiving beach-break option suitable when reef conditions are unfavorable.
