Jetty-influenced beach peaks at the south end of King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach, California, where the Redondo Submarine Canyon sits directly offshore and reshapes the swell window dramatically. This spot only fires on W and NW short-to-mid-period swells. The submarine canyon refracts longer-period energy away, and south swells are completely blocked, making this strictly a winter wave when Pacific storms push down into SoCal. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot, with waist-high to a few feet overhead being the functional range. Beginners can work the softer inside sections while intermediates and advanced surfers pick off the better peaks. Crowds show up whenever there's surf, with the jetty providing a relatively easy paddle channel. Bottom: sand. Season: winter. Consistency: swell-dependent and canyon-limited, so check buoys for W/NW short-period energy specifically. Water quality is fair at best and degrades noticeably after rainfall, so skip it for a day or two post-storm.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a crowd whenever conditions align. With a limited swell window and an easy access point, the lineup fills quickly on working days. The local vibe is mellow and welcoming, so straightforward lineup etiquette goes a long way. Dawn patrol is the obvious move to avoid the thickest crowds on peak winter days.

Access & Facilities

Free street parking on Esplanade with access through Topaz Street. Easy walk to the water. The King Harbor area has food and services nearby. Water quality is rated fair and gets worse after rain events, this is the LA basin, so keep that in mind post-storm.

Nearby Alternatives

If the canyon is killing the swell here, El Porto to the north picks up more consistent W and NW energy and can handle a wider size range. Torrance Beach to the south offers similar sand-bottom peaks with slightly different exposure.
