A slow-rolling right-hander peeling through Pacific Beach, PB Point is the kind of wave that rewards patience and smooth rail work over power surfing. NW and W swells are the ticket, ideally pushing 3-6ft with an E or NE wind to keep faces clean. Low tide tends to organize the sections best, though it can be surfed across the tidal range. Longboards and funboards dominate the lineup for good reason: shortboards will have you paddling hard for scraps unless size pushes into the overhead-plus range. Crowds pick up fast when it clicks into double-overhead, so expect a busy peak on those days despite an otherwise mellow local vibe. Bottom: sand and rock. Season: November through February. Consistency: moderate, needs push in the swell to get going. After any rain, the runoff from Mission Bay degrades water quality noticeably, so check reports and wait 72 hours before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Moderate crowds on average, but the lineup stacks up when a decent swell arrives. The local vibe is described as mostly mellow and manageable. Dawn patrol during weekdays gives the best chance at space. Respect standard lineup etiquette and don't snake the longboarders who own this wave by design.

Access & Facilities

Access is straightforward with street parking along Pacific Beach. Amenities are close: restrooms, showers, food, and surf shops all within walking distance along the boardwalk. The paddle-out is easy in typical conditions. Water quality is generally clean but degrades after rainfall due to urban runoff, so time your sessions accordingly.

Nearby Alternatives

When PB Point goes flat or too crowded, Tourmaline Surf Park a short drive north offers similar longboard-friendly conditions with a dedicated crew. Ocean Beach Pier to the south catches more swell and provides faster beach break options when a solid W swell is running.
