Scattered sand-bottom peaks line two miles of Southern California beachbreak along PCH, offering a mellow paddle-out and forgiving, mushy corners that work best head-high and under. W windswell is the bread and butter here, ideally mixed with SW or S energy on a medium tide with light E winds. Closeouts are the default, and the bar is fickle enough that many sessions devolve into hunting the better corner rather than committing to a single peak. Beginners and intermediates will feel at home, and the crowd stays thin even on weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, though winter W swells give the most consistency. Consistency: low to moderate, bar-dependent. Boulders reportedly get tossed across PCH during large swells, so keep your eyes open walking to and from the water.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

One of the mellower lineups on this stretch of PCH. Crowd pressure is minimal, localism is essentially nonexistent, and shoulder burn is light even when the peaks are firing. The two-mile spread means surfers naturally distribute across the beach. Dawn patrol is rarely necessary here for crowd reasons.

Access & Facilities

Direct access off PCH, as straightforward as it gets. Park along the highway or in nearby lots. No long hike, no hidden paddle-out. Water quality is generally clean but can degrade for a day or two after heavy rainfall. During large swells, be cautious crossing PCH as boulders have been reported on the roadway.

Nearby Alternatives

When Summer Beach is maxed out or closing out top to bottom, Hobson's Beachbreak a few miles north offers near-identical conditions and is worth checking on the same run. The broader Ventura County coast has more sheltered points that come alive on bigger SW swells.
