San Simeon Point is a moody, multi-section right-hand point on California's Central Coast that demands patience and the right swell window to deliver. The primary break fires on SW, W, and NW swells from 5ft up, with NE or E winds going offshore across the point. Low tide suits the reef sections best, medium tide opens up the beachbreak inside. forecast services puts it bluntly: there's a 97% chance you'll be severely let down. But when it connects, the wave is fast, hollow, and powerful with rides stretching well past 150m on a good day. Intermediate to experienced surfers only. Bottom: sand and rock. Season: June through February. Consistency: fickle, swell-dependent. Bring a step-up for anything overhead and expect the paddle-out to burn your shoulders on bigger sets.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday lineups can be empty, weekends see a few surfers. Localism is real and described as intimidating. Be polite, stay aware of hierarchy, and read the lineup before paddling to the peak. Don't be the person who burns a local on their home break.

Access & Facilities

Take Highway 1 into San Simeon Acres and turn west onto Pico Avenue. Park in the small cul-de-sac at the end and use the staircase down to the beach. Water quality is clean. The elephant seal rookery nearby draws significant wildlife and tourist traffic on the highway.

Nearby Alternatives

Morro Bay and Cayucos both pick up similar NW swells and offer more consistent beachbreak options when San Simeon is too big or too small. Cambria-area beachbreaks can fill in on smaller days.
