A long right-hand point in Santa Cruz that peels across multiple sections of rock-reef, kelp, and sand, drawing every board type in the county on any given day. Optimal on SSW through WNW swell at chest-high to double overhead, with N through NE wind keeping it clean, incoming mid-tide is the sweet spot, though it rides across most tides. The crowd is genuinely heavy year-round, and the lineup self-sorts by section, so beginners who drift into Sewer Peak or First Peak without reading priority will have a bad time. Bottom: rock-reef, sand, kelp. Season: year-round. Consistency: high, breaking roughly 300+ days annually. Low-tide entry through the kelp field is slow and ankle-threatening, so time your paddle-out for incoming water and watch the algae-covered steps on the way down.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the most consistently crowded lineups in California. Locals know the micro-currents and positioning better than anyone, and they use that knowledge. Respect right of way strictly. Avoid weekends and summer school holidays unless you have the read of the wave dialed. Mid-week dawn patrol is the best window to find manageable numbers. The vibe is edgy when it's good, manageable when it isn't.

Access & Facilities

Stairs at 34th Ave drop you to the water. Parking in the surrounding residential streets is limited and signed, so arrive early or expect to walk. No facilities on the beach. At low tide, the walk across reef to the lineup involves kelp, sea urchins, and sudden depth changes, so booties are worth considering. Water quality is currently clean despite the historic "Sewer Peak" name.

Nearby Alternatives

The Hook, a small point break in the cove just east, offers a mellower right with less crowd pressure on smaller days. Indicators, further inside the headland, links long walls when swell and tide align and provides an overflow option when Pleasure Point is maxed out.
