A ledgy right-hand point on the Ventura County coast that locals quietly compare to Rincon, minus most of the circus. On minus low tides with solid NW or W swell, the inside section in front of the spiral staircase transforms into a fast, hollow right that threads sand-sucking caverns for five to six seconds of tube time. NE and N winds keep the face clean. SW or SE onshores kill it quickly. Best at head-high and above, with 4-8ft being the sweet spot before it closes out the sections. The crowd has grown from near-empty to moderate on good winter days, and local property owners can add low-level vibe. Bottom: cobblestone and sand. Season: October through February. Consistency: reliable on solid NW groundswell. Come in from the south, timing your walk to beat the incoming tide before the barnacled cobblestones become an obstacle course.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Once a genuine sleeper, Pitas now draws a moderate crowd on prime winter days, including pros when it fires. Weekdays remain relatively light. The lineup is generally welcoming, though adjacent property owners can bring occasional friction. Dawn patrol in mid-winter on a weekday is your best window for uncrowded waves.

Access & Facilities

Access requires walking the beach from either direction, timed to low or mid tide. High tide makes the rock scramble genuinely awkward and potentially dangerous. Mondos to the south is the easier approach. Bring a wetsuit year-round, water temps in winter drop to require at minimum a 3/2. No facilities at the point itself.

Nearby Alternatives

Mondos directly to the south is a gentler, sandbottom option for beginners or small-swell days. Rincon, a short drive south toward Santa Barbara, offers longer walls on the same NW swell when Pitas isn't threading its sections.
