A long right-hand point break tucked along the Malibu coast, Latigo Point only fires on strong S or SE swells and is easily overlooked when the rest of PCH is flat. It needs a solid 3-5ft to get going and runs considerably longer than its more famous neighbor when conditions align, though the trade-off is mushier, more forgiving walls rather than Malibu's tighter sections. SW winds are ideal, onshore SE chop kills it fast. Low to mid tide is the window. Longboarders and patient intermediates get the most out of it. The crowd is real on the rare days it works, weekends especially attract a tight local contingent who have been waiting weeks for this swell, but getting there before 8am can earn you a peaceful session. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: south swell season, May through October. Consistency: low, works maybe a handful of days per year. Watch inside rocks on the paddle back and expect the lot to fill fast once word gets out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

On the rare occasion it breaks, locals who have been waiting all season arrive quickly. Weekend sessions are ultra-crowded relative to the wave count. Dropping in is not tolerated and locals will repay the favor without hesitation. Sit wide, be patient, earn your waves. Go on a weekday, early, and you have a real shot at space. Stand-up paddlers are a fixture and a persistent source of lineup tension.

Access & Facilities

Park in the small lot off PCH near the residences. Walk down the beach below the high tide line to reach the break. Lot capacity is limited and fills once conditions are confirmed good. No dedicated surf facilities on site. Malibu town is close for food and supplies. Watch the inside rocks on your way back in, they are the main hazard beyond normal point-break currents.

Nearby Alternatives

Malibu First Point is the obvious go-to when Latigo is too small or too crowded, picking up swell more readily and offering a more consistent right-hand wall. Zuma Beach, a few minutes up PCH, catches NW swell more reliably and gives shortboarders and longboarders a different option when the south isn't showing.
