A fickle right-hand point beside UCSB that transforms from a slow, mushy longboard wave into a fast, hollow wall when a legitimate W to WNW swell finally wraps around the Channel Islands. It needs real size to fire: chest-high barely wakes it up, and the best days arrive on WSW to WNW groundswell in the 4-8ft range, ideally under NE winds at low to mid tide. On those days, long rides with zippy inside sections at Poles reward patience. Mostly students, generally welcoming, but it crowds quickly when conditions line up. Bottom: rock reef. Season: October to February. Consistency: low. Swell period under 15 seconds tends to produce better shape here than long-period ground swell that loses energy wrapping the islands. Bring a longboard or fish for the more common mellow days, but have a shortboard ready when the forecast shows a solid W event.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The student population from UCSB keeps the lineup busy whenever anything remotely rideable shows up. When a real swell hits, expect it to be crowded fast. The vibe is generally welcoming rather than territorial. Dawn patrol on weekdays is the most reliable route to space in the lineup.

Access & Facilities

Park in the coin-metered lot adjacent to the point. No facilities on site. Water quality is generally clean but degrades after heavy rain. No major hazards beyond reef at low tide and the usual collision risk in a busy student lineup.

Nearby Alternatives

If Campus Point is flat or too mushy, the beachbreaks along Isla Vista pick up windswell more readily and work on higher tides. Rincon, to the south, is the go-to option when a proper W or NW swell is running and you want longer, more consistent walls.
