A shapeless clump of submerged reef off Laguna Beach that transforms into a hard-charging 200-yard left when S and SW swells arrive. South and SW swell from 3-12ft feeds the break, with offshore E winds keeping faces clean. Mid tide is ideal, high tide brings backwash, and lower tides expose the reef boils that make paddling a minefield. Confident to expert surfers only. The crowd is moderate but the local vibe is serious and intimidating, so come with ability to back it up. Bottom: sharp rock reef with minimal sand. Season: March through October on Southern Hemisphere swells and Baja hurricane pulses. Consistency: swell-dependent, needs a legit S push to fire. Parking on Brooks Street is notoriously scarce, so grab any legal spot you see the moment you arrive or expect a long walk.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism here is real. The forecast services rating calls it intimidating, and that's accurate. Moderate crowd most days, but on overhead-plus S swells, it draws serious surfers and the lineup self-polices. Dawn patrol in summer skips the blackball restrictions between Brooks and Thalia that run during peak beach hours. Don't paddle out on a big day until you can read the reef.

Access & Facilities

Laguna Beach is accessible via PCH or Laguna Canyon Road. Stairs access the beach at Brooks, Oak, and Thalia Streets. Parking is the single biggest logistical headache. PCH spots on the beach side fill fast, and side-street spots inland require a walk. Water quality is clean but degrades after rain. No facilities at the break itself. Laguna Beach town center is close for food and water.

Nearby Alternatives

If Brooks is too big or the swell angle is off, Thalia Street to the south picks up similar S swell on a slightly more forgiving reef. On smaller days, the beach peaks scattered along South Laguna offer playful options for less committed sessions.
