Protected by the Long Beach Breakwater, 64th Place is a mellow, sand-bottom beachbreak in Belmont Shore that only wakes up on the rarest of swells. It needs a huge SSE or W-WSW push to produce anything rideable, and even then you're looking at waist- to head-high waves at absolute best. Mid to high tide keeps the shape cleanest, light N or NE offshores smooth it out when they show up. This is beginner and casual longboarder territory, suited to those who want soft, slow-breaking waves without a competitive lineup. Bottom: Sand. Season: Summer and early fall on strong southern swells. Consistency: Low. Water quality is fair on most days but degrades noticeably after rain, so check conditions before paddling out and watch for stingrays shuffling your feet on the sandy bottom.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup is mellow and welcoming, partly because the wave so rarely delivers. When a decent swell does arrive, mostly locals show up who know the window. No significant localism pressure reported. Dawn patrol in summer gives the best shot at clean conditions before any onshore breeze picks up.

Access & Facilities

Street parking is available in Belmont Shore. No dedicated facilities at the break itself. Belmont Shore has cafes, food options, and board-friendly infrastructure nearby. Avoid paddling out after heavy rain due to urban runoff and elevated pollution in this stretch of Long Beach.

Nearby Alternatives

When 64th Place is flat, which is most of the time, the jetty peaks in the area and spots further south toward Seal Beach handle swell more reliably. El Porto and Manhattan Beach pick up more W-NW energy and offer better-shaped beachbreak on days when Long Beach is dead.
