A resort beachbreak on Spain's Valencia coast that earns its keep during winter NE windswells, with two distinct setups worth knowing. The main beach runs long and produces short, punchy peaks best ridden waist to head-high, with a peeling left breaking off the northern breakwater at low tide when storm swells push through. To the south, the Jucar river mouth adds a wedgy right off its own breakwater. NE swell is the engine here, with W or NW offshores cleaning things up. Works across all tides but closes out at high. Suitable for all abilities, though beginners should respect the rips and longshore drift that develop when swell picks up. Bottom: Sand. Season: December to February. Consistency: Moderate, swell-dependent. Pack a 4/3 for winter sessions and check the river mouth after rains, water quality drops noticeably.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

A small but enthusiastic local crew works these peaks. The vibe is welcoming and the lineup rarely gets competitive. When NE swell fires in winter, expect a modest uptick in numbers but nothing intense. Easy place to surf without attitude.

Access & Facilities

Park in the rough lot near the river for the Jucar setup, or use the car park near the Cullera breakwater for the northern end. Resort town infrastructure nearby means food and water are easy. Water quality is fair in summer but can deteriorate significantly at the rivermouth during winter and after heavy rains.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cullera is flat or blown out, the broader Valencia coast has other beachbreaks to the north that pick up similar NE fetch. Gandia to the south is another resort beach option worth checking in the same swell window.
