A sheltered south-facing beach on Menorca's south coast, Sant Tomas works when Son Bou is too big and blown out, catching SE-to-W swells and staying clean under N winds. The 2 km stretch produces short, punchy shorebreak peaks that can go fast and hollow on a good day, best in the 2-4ft range before the close-outs take over. It suits beginners and those still building confidence, though it can get busy in summer, so an early start makes a real difference. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium. The same N and NW winds that make most of the island unsurfable are what groom it here, so watch the models and move quickly when the window opens. Water is clean with no pollution concerns, and the wave can be more protected against W and NW winds than neighbouring Son Bou, making it worth checking first when the wind swings onshore everywhere else.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Summer sees the beach packed and the lineup equally busy. Localism is not a known issue, but the combination of a short wave and a tourist-heavy crowd means space is at a premium in peak season. Dawn patrol in July and August is not optional.

Access & Facilities

Sant Tomas is a small resort village on Menorca's south coast, reachable by car from Alaior. Parking is limited and fills quickly. No surf-specific facilities on the beach. Bring your own water and supplies. The beach is clean with no hazard concerns.

Nearby Alternatives

When Sant Tomas is too small or crowded, Son Bou to the west handles more swell and offers more peaks along a longer beach. If swell is building and winds are NE or N, check the island's north coast options, which come alive under Tramontana conditions.
