A-frame beachbreak peaks break along Montgat's compact Mediterranean shoreline, roughly 20km northeast of Barcelona on Catalonia's coast. The swell window runs NE to SE, meaning this spot needs the Med to wake up before it shows any real form. Offshore westerlies clean it up, and it works across all tides, though size caps out around 4-6ft before conditions deteriorate. The standout section is Rotonda, a short hollow right that draws the most attention and generates real crowd pressure when the swell arrives. Intermediate surfers will find the most to work with here, but expect to share it with a pack of Catalan regulars who know the spot well. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through early spring when Mediterranean storms fire. Consistency: medium. Get out early to snag a peak before the crowds stack up, as parking is limited and competition in the lineup intensifies quickly once the sets start rolling through.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the more pressured lineups along this stretch of coast. Catalan locals have a strong presence and growing crowding has become a genuine issue at Rotonda. Be respectful, wait your turn, and avoid paddling straight to the peak. Crowding problems are well-documented here. Dawn patrol on weekdays is your best option.

Access & Facilities

No dedicated surf parking, so arriving early or on foot from the train (Barcelona to Montgat is a short commute on the Rodalies line) helps. The surrounding area is urban with standard services. There is a surf shop in nearby Masnou for supplies or board repairs. Note stormwater pollution after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Montgat is maxed out or too crowded, Barceloneta and the city beaches offer more peaks spread across a wider stretch of sand. If you need a shop or advice on where the swell is hitting best that day, the Masnou surf shop is a good first stop.
