Mallorca's most consistent beachbreak sits at the island's northeast tip, where the Gulf of Lyon funnels N and NW swells directly into a wide sandy bay. NW through NE swells between 2-6ft are the sweet spot, with S to SW winds going offshore and all tides workable. It suits intermediate to advanced surfers who can read shifting peaks and handle the occasional heavy barrel, but summer crowds plus aggressive locals make the lineup tense when the swell arrives. Bottom: sand. Season: September through April. Consistency: medium, though rarely flat in winter. Arrive early on any swell day, because when the Tramontana blows out of the north and wraps into the bay, the crowds pile in fast and the current turns serious.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Locals can be territorial, particularly toward the summer tourist influx. The regional editorials source is direct: aggressive behaviour toward chaotic tourist crowds is documented. Respect the lineup, don't snake sets, and keep the vibe quiet. Off-season weekdays are noticeably calmer. An annual surf competition runs here, which signals a tight-knit local scene that takes the break seriously.

Access & Facilities

The beach is in the far northeast of Mallorca, reachable by car from Palma. A car park sits at the beach access point. Camping is available nearby, useful for multi-day trips targeting a swell window. Lifeguards are present in summer. Strong rip currents are a real hazard: several drownings have occurred here. Read the water before paddling out, especially when the bay is pushing size.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cala Mesquida is maxed out or blown out, the northeast coast offers a handful of smaller bays that handle similar NE swell but with more protection from cross-winds. If the whole north coast goes flat, Mallorca's south and southwest face a different swell direction entirely and may offer something in SW groundswells, though quality is generally lower.
