A punchy, west-facing beachbreak on the Asturian coast that picks up swell when most spots in the region are too small, making it one of the most reliable sessions in Northwest Spain. W to NW swell in the 3-8ft range is the sweet spot, with SE offshore winds keeping faces clean. All tides produce rideable peaks depending on sandbar configuration, with low tide generally sharpening things up. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find the most reward here, it draws a solid local crew and gets genuinely crowded on weekends and during summer, when beachgoers add to the chaos. Bottom: beach. Season: September to March. Consistency: high. Note the estuary proximity when checking water quality after heavy rain, though pollution runs lower than you might expect given the industrial city of Avilés nearby.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This beach draws consistent crowds from Avilés and beyond. Weekends can get competitive in the water, and summer brings non-surfing beach crowds that complicate access and parking. Winter mornings offer the best chance at uncrowded peaks. Locals are reportedly friendly, but respect the lineup and take your turn.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available and generally fine outside peak summer weekends. Lifeguard cover in summer. Basic beach facilities on site. Check water quality after river rain given the nearby estuary outflow.

Nearby Alternatives

When Xago is blown out or closed, the stretch running toward Salinas offers similar beachbreak setups with slightly different swell exposure. For a step up in quality on a solid NW swell, Rodiles to the east is widely regarded as Asturias's standout wave.
