Pantin delivers some of the most consistent beach-break surf on the Galician coast of northwest Spain, sitting off the C646 road near Valdoviño. It responds to swells from 2ft up to double-overhead-plus, works across all tides, and offers multiple peaks spread across the beach with a useful right-hand channel that lets you paddle out without fighting whitewater. The right-side rip can also carry intermediates and up directly into the lineup on bigger days. Beginners find forgiving sections closer to shore while stronger surfers can work the outer banks when size builds. It hosts official competitions regularly, which signals the wave quality holds under real contest conditions. Bottom: sand. Season: consistent year-round with autumn and winter delivering the best size and power. Consistency: high. Watch the wind closely: onshore conditions here turn the peaks dumpy and unpredictable fast, and even experienced locals sit it out when the breeze picks up hard.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays tend to be quiet with a small crew in the water. Weekends draw bigger numbers, and during the annual Pantin Classic surf contest the whole area gets attention from traveling surfers. Locals are generally relaxed but give the lineup respect on bigger days. Dawn sessions on weekends are worth the early alarm.

Access & Facilities

Reach Pantin via the C646 between Ferrol and Ortigueira. Parking is straightforward near the beach. A surf school operates on-site with accommodation, equipment hire, and basic facilities. Water quality is generally good. Watch for the right-side rip on bigger swells, which is useful for paddling out but can surprise newcomers.

Nearby Alternatives

When Pantin is blown out or maxed, Valdoviño just to the south offers a similar beach-break setup and is worth checking in the same trip. Villareal de la Igrexa is another option in the area, though the lineup sits further offshore and requires more committed paddle.
