A long golden crescent of sand on Galicia's Atlantic-facing coast, Playa de Rodo picks up every swell rolling in off the North Atlantic, hemmed in by rocky points that give the beach a natural focus. NW and W swells are the bread and butter here, best from knee-high to well overhead, with SE winds keeping faces clean. Banks and peaks run the full length of the beach and hold through all tides, making this one of the more consistent stretches in the region. Intermediates will find plenty to work with across multiple peaks, and the lineup stays manageable outside summer weekends when Ferrol and A Coruña locals pack in. Bottom: Sand. Season: September to November, though summer delivers reliable surf too. Consistency: High for the region. Rip currents run along the rocky points at each end, so read the water before paddling out, especially when it's pumping.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends in summer bring a full lineup with locals from Ferrol and A Coruña. The vibe is largely tolerant and welcoming, but the crowd is real. Weekday dawn patrols in shoulder season are the move if you want space. Multiple peaks spread surfers out enough that sessions rarely feel desperate.

Access & Facilities

Access is straightforward with parking nearby. The beach is a standard Galician coastal stop with basic services in the area. Water quality is clean. Watch the rips near the rocky points at either end of the bay.

Nearby Alternatives

Galicia's coastline runs deep with options. When Rodo is maxed out or blown out, the sheltered coves to the south offer smaller, cleaner conditions. Bigger NW swells push harder-breaking setups onto the rockier points nearby, worth scouting if you're on a step-up.
