A sweeping 2,400m crescent of sand on the Rias Baixas coast, La Lanzada sits between Sanxenxo and O Grove in northwest Spain and delivers multiple peaks plus a left-hand reef section at the northern end. SW swells are the engine here, cleaned up by NE offshore winds that are most reliable from autumn through winter. Waves are generally soft-shouldered and non-hollow, breaking best on a rising low-to-mid tide across the full length of the beach. Winter brings the most consistent surf with the least crowd pressure, while summer packs the lineup with surf schools and seasonal tourists. Bottom: sand with reef section. Season: Oct-Mar. Consistency: moderate to good year-round. Bring a 3/2 or 4/3 depending on the month, and aim for a dawn patrol mid-week in winter if you want space to breathe.

Crowd & Localism

Summer is loud: surf schools occupy large sections of the beach and the car parks fill quickly. Localism pressure is minimal given the learner-friendly crowd, but peak-season weekends can feel more chaotic than competitive. Winter rewards patience with a noticeably emptier lineup and cleaner conditions.

Access & Facilities

Blue-flag beach with parking, lifeguard coverage in summer, beach bars and several surf schools operating seasonally. The town of O Grove is minutes away for food and supplies. No serious access challenges. Watch for shore-break on high tide at certain peaks.

Nearby Alternatives

When La Lanzada is onshore and blown out, check Praia de Area Maior or Praia de Foxos for shelter from different wind angles. The broader Rias Baixas coast has several beach breaks that respond differently to NW versus SW groundswells.
