A big, open beachbreak on the Galician coast of northwest Spain, Razo picks up NW to N swells that can bypass smaller nearby spots and delivers fast, walled-up peelers with genuine barrel sections across a very long stretch of sand. SE to S winds are offshore here, and the wave runs on all tides, giving it flexibility that most beachbreaks lack. It suits expert surfers best: the speed and wall height punish hesitation, and the size range of 3-8ft can climb quickly in a solid Atlantic low. Crowds are rarely a factor outside a brief summer window, and even then it stays manageable. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through winter and into spring. Consistency: high. Bring a step-up if anything solid is in the forecast, and check the forecast before driving out in NW winds, which shut the place down fast.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Razo is one of the emptier stretches of an already low-density coastline. A handful of travelling surfers and beachgoers show up in summer, but outside that it is practically deserted. Localism pressure is low. The size and power of the wave self-selects for experienced surfers anyway.

Access & Facilities

Free parking at the beach. A surf school operates here in summer. Low-profile free camping is possible nearby, and there is a formal campsite at Baldaio a short distance away. Clean water, no pollution concerns noted. Stock up on food before you arrive as services thin out quickly once you leave the main road.

Nearby Alternatives

When Razo is blown out by NW winds, the area has sheltered beachbreaks that handle westerly swell and southerly winds better. Pantin to the east is the most consistently surfed spot in Galicia, with a pro contest history and a different exposure. Frouxeira is another long arcing beach with high-quality peaks worth checking if conditions allow.
