A west-facing crescent beachbreak on the Galician coast, San Xorxe delivers punchy, walled-up peaks with legitimate barrel sections when NW to W swell fills in at low to mid tide. The optimal swell window runs W through N, with SE or S winds going offshore and cleaning up the lefts in the southern corner particularly well. Size range of 3-8ft keeps it in expert territory, and the wave's tendency to wall up fast makes it unforgiving for intermediate surfers still working on their positioning. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through spring for consistent NW groundswell. Consistency: medium. The rips are real here and shift with the sandbars, so read the beach before paddling out, especially if you're unfamiliar with the break.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds arrive sometimes, particularly when this is the best option running in the region. The beach is long enough to spread out, and the carpark has plenty of space, so peak-to-peak movement helps when one section gets busy. Galicia has an active surf community and traveling surfers should respect the lineup.

Access & Facilities

Free parking, lifeguard service, showers, and nearby camping make this one of the more self-sufficient setups on the coast. Water quality is clean. Rips are the main hazard, no reef or pollution concerns.

Nearby Alternatives

When San Xorxe is flat or blown out, the broader Galician coast has multiple beachbreaks covering different swell and wind angles, including NW-facing beaches that handle SW winds and more sheltered east-facing options that wake up only on the biggest storm swells.
