A highly consistent beachbreak also known as Furnas, Rio Siera sits on the northwest Spanish coast and delivers punchy, quality peaks across a long sandy stretch. SW to NW swells feed it well, with SE winds holding the faces clean offshore. It handles all tides but tends to sharpen up toward low, where the banks steepen and the peaks get more defined. Strong rips run the length of the beach, so read the water before paddling out. This one suits experienced surfers comfortable in fast, powerful beach surf. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, with autumn and winter delivering the most consistent swell. Consistency: high. Bring a step-up or a wider shortboard for the bigger sets, when it's pumping at 6-8ft, rip awareness and a strong paddle are non-negotiable.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are rarely an issue here, which makes it worth prioritising in a busy travel schedule. Dawn patrol sessions in autumn can deliver quality waves with minimal competition. Respect the locals you do encounter, northwest Spain has a proud surfing culture and that courtesy goes a long way.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available. There is camping nearby, making this a practical base for a multi-day session. No major hazards are flagged beyond the strong rips that run along the beach length. Watch the current and identify a channel before committing to the paddle-out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Rio Siera goes flat or the wind turns onshore, the wider Galician coast offers options. Pantin to the south is the most popular wave in the region, ultra-consistent with a long stretch of swell-hungry peaks. Praia de Frouxeira to the south also delivers excellent quality peaks along its arcing beach length on similar swell.
