A versatile beach break on the Galician coast of northwest Spain, Foz delivers hollow, fast peaks across a stretch of coastline that rewards exploration. The spot picks up SW to NW swells well, working from under 1m up to a solid 4m-plus, making it functional on most days when Atlantic groundswell rolls in. Offshore winds blow from the east, and conditions can shift markedly between peaks along the coast road, so reading the sandbars on arrival matters. Beginners through advanced surfers can find something here depending on which peak is working and the swell size on the day. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn through spring for quality swell. Consistency: good across the winter window. On weekends the better-looking peaks draw a crowd, so dawn sessions on a mid-week Atlantic pulse will get you the most room in the lineup without the jostling for sets.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays tend to run empty or near-empty, but the better banks fill up on weekends, especially when swell is clean and the forecast has been widely shared. Localism is not reported as heavy here. Arrive early, pick a less obvious peak, and you will generally have space.

Access & Facilities

The coast road runs alongside the beach, so access is straightforward. No long walks required. Basic services are available in the town of Foz. Water quality can be affected by river runoff after heavy rain, which is common in Galicia through autumn and winter.

Nearby Alternatives

Galicia's Rias Baixas and Rias Altas coastlines offer numerous beach and point breaks within driving distance. When Foz is maxed out or blown out, sheltered options closer to Ribadeo or around the headlands to the west can provide cleaner conditions in strong W or SW swells.
