A reliable beach break south of Costa da Caparica, Praia da Rainha delivers punchy, hollow peaks across a wide swell window that starts working under 1m and holds up past 8ft. SW and NW swells with offshore easterly winds produce short but hollow sections, with rides typically under 50m on average days and up to 150m when a solid groundswell lines things up properly. Best at mid tide, though the surfer community reports it functions across all tidal stages. Suits all levels on smaller days, with intermediates and above getting more out of it when size and shape improve. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round, with autumn and winter delivering the most consistent groundswells. Consistency: moderate to good. Parking is guarded and costs roughly 1 euro for a full day in July and August only, making logistics straightforward.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are nearly empty. Weekends see a few surfers but nothing heavy. No reported localism. It sits south of the more popular Costa da Caparica lineup cluster, so the crowd pressure that builds at the northern beaches rarely reaches here.

Access & Facilities

Drive south from Costa da Caparica along the coastal road past Praia Nova and Praia da Saúde. Guarded parking on-site, 1 euro per day in peak summer months only. A restaurant and bar are reported on-site. No complex access, no long walk, no hazardous paddle-out channel under normal conditions.

Nearby Alternatives

Praia Nova and Praia da Saúde sit just to the north and offer similar sand-bottom setups. When this stretch is flat or blown out, the northern end of Costa da Caparica closer to Fonte da Telha typically has more bank variety to pick from.
